Three Weeks in England
I find myself in England once again, probably for the last time. Last time because travel by plane is terrible for the environment (and I can’t see myself traveling by boat, across the Atlantic). Plus environmental change represents increased turbulence, which I find unbearable. But for today, here I am. So far I’ve met one half-aunt (Iris), located in the past two years via DNA, on ancestry-dot-com, from my unfaithful granddad’s side; and one long-known aunt (Pat), the only one I have left, aged 90. I’m supposed to phone my one remaining uncle (Nick), aged 94, to ensure that I meet with him in nine days. But I have nine days…no real pressure. This period of time was chosen in part so that I could attend the 2025 XTC Festival, in (music group) XTC’s hometown of Swindon (Wilts.). That’ll be five days from now. Victor’s here until 16 June, then after his departure I head up to Seaham for two days. Seaham (County Durham) is the location of one of the world’s best SEA GLASS beaches. Need I...
